Sarah Handy

Owner & Founder of Handy Yoga

Sarah fell in love with yoga over a decade ago. After years of fighting and hiding her trauma and emotions, she found herself in a dark place - until yoga brought light back into her life. Through mindful movement, she began to heal both body and soul, discovering that yoga is so much more than just poses. Today, mindfulness, yoga, and meditation remain essential tools in her personal healing journey.

As the owner of Handy Yoga, Sarah's vision is to guide others in using the tools of yoga to live more present, intentional lives - to move beyond simply going through the motions and instead recognize the beauty, potential, and divine light that exists within us all.

Sarah completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Breathing Space and Meditation and has continued her education with an additional 100 hours through Stone Yoga School. Her advanced studies include Intuitive Sequencing and Energetic Alignment, 5 Elements -Yoga & Ayurveda, and he Art of Assisting. She has also completed a Restorative Yoga Series through the Accessible Yoga School.

Melinda Rempe

I struggled with mobility on the left side of my body at a young age. By the age of 5, I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. My whole life I’ve had to adapt every physical activity to make it possible for me to do. I started practicing yoga after decades of living with chronic pain. Mainstream yoga classes were too difficult for me. Getting up and down off the floor was not possible at the time, so I started taking private yoga lessons. Working around my knee’s lack of mobility, my yoga teacher showed me how to move my body in a chair rather than on the floor. She taught me how to look at yoga postures from different angles. I gained so much confidence in my body as I learned how to practice in a different way. I used what I learned to rehabilitate after a long, overdue knee replacement. My love for my body grew as I gained confidence and strength. I was hooked and wanted to learn more! My quest for knowledge sent me to Yoga Teacher Training where my yoga journey first began.

My intention with Chair Yoga is to challenge students’ ideas of their mobility. The chair offers a space between standing and sitting on the floor making it an accessible yoga class for everyone. Each class focuses on building strength, balance, and flexibility.

The intensity of the class is entirely up to the student.

Melinda teaches our Prop-asana classes, previously known as Chair yoga. This class can be surprisingly challenging and is a great way to build strength and mobility while learning creative and fun ways to practice poses (asanas.)

When she's not teaching yoga, Melinda is also a Co-owner of Avenge Your Hair Studio in Broad Ripple and is an incredible hairstylist. Her Instagram shares both her yoga updates as well as her hair studio information. Check it out!

MEREDITH SHELTON

I was introduced to Yoga back in 2018 after I went to a meditation class with my grandma. I started doing some research and found out that meditation and yoga are connected so I figured why not try it out. So I did and fell in love. I’ve struggled with balance my whole life as well and yoga has really really helped with that. I am in no means a fast paced person. I believe that everybody should slow down. Yoga helps me live in the moment and I hope I can help other people find their peace. When I’m not teaching I’m usually traveling or hanging out with my dogs.
