Chair Yoga with Meredith
SAT DEC 20, 10 - 11 AM EST

Chair Yoga is a gentle and accessible form of Hatha yoga that makes the physical and mental benefits of a traditional mat practice available to everyone, regardless of age, mobility, or fitness level. In this welcoming class, all postures and movements are adapted to be performed while seated or using a sturdy chair for support and balance, so there is no need to get up or down from the floor.

What to Expect:
The class begins with guided breathing exercises and a seated warm-up to center the mind and loosen physical tension. You will then be guided through a series of gentle stretches and modified poses designed to improve range of motion in the spine, hips, shoulders, and legs. The second portion of class may include optional standing poses, such as Warrior variations, where the chair is used for stability to build strength and enhance balance. The session concludes with a seated cool-down and a final relaxation (Savasana) to leave you feeling calm, refreshed, and grounded.

Key Benefits:

  • Increased Flexibility and Mobility: Gently stretches stiff muscles and keeps joints limber, which helps with everyday movements and reduces stiffness.
  • Improved Strength and Balance: Builds core, leg, and upper body strength and improves body awareness, which can help reduce the risk of falls.
  • Stress Reduction and Mental Clarity: Incorporates mindfulness and breathing techniques to calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and promote better sleep.

Who is this class for?
This class is suitable for all levels, and no prior yoga experience is necessary. It is an excellent option for:

  • Individuals with limited mobility due to age, chronic conditions (like arthritis or osteoporosis), or recovery from injury/surgery.
  • Those concerned about balance or who have difficulty standing for long periods.
  • Office workers looking for a break from their desk to stretch and relieve tension.
  • Anyone seeking a gentle entry point to yoga or a low-impact way to stay active.
